John Cave is a guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer based in New York City. His style is derived from a mixture of influences ranging from rock to jazz, hip-hop to West African styles.
Growing up in Kentucky, John was drawn to the guitar by the local blues and bluegrass musicians that he saw at summer festivals by the Ohio River. He got his first guitar at the age of 14, and it quickly became apparent that it was going to be more than a hobby. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with a Bachelor’s in Guitar Performance in 2004.
Over the last few years John has emerged as a go-to musician on the NYC scene, and has shared the stage and the studio with an array of great musicians, singers and rappers from all over the world. He’s worked frequently with legendary hip-hop producer and Jay-Z collaborator Ski Beatz, including a live gig on 2011 New Year’s Eve in Tokyo that featured the biggest, best rappers in Japan. He has toured frequently with Talib Kweli since 2011—including a notable gig as musical director for a collaborative concert between Idle Warship and the Miami Symphony in October of 2012. . He has appeared on MTV with rappers Curren$y and Big K.R.I.T., and on BET’s Music Matters and 106 & Park with Maybach Music group signee Stalley. In the summer of 2015 he teamed up with singer Gabrielle Ross and toured the west coast, Northeast, and the UK. He’s also played extensively with Platinum-selling R&B singer and friend Jon B since 2007.
More recently adding vocals to his arsenal, John has been actively performing solo as well as completing his first solo album, entitled “Celestial”, released in April 2015 on Garage Door Records.
